The Roman Catholic Church in Salida was founded in 1885, just five years after the railroad pierced Bighorn Sheep Canyon. The present church was built in 1909. With the growth in the area and population increases, the present Parish School was built in 1957 to provide a center for educational and spiritual development. The operation of the school was suspended in 1990. Two years later the school was used by the public school system until a new regional school could be built in 1999. During the summer of 1999, transformation of the building into a state of the art conference center was completed. The center currently meets the expanded needs of the community and businesses. |
